Jab-A-Seat Super Saturday Vaccination

New Zealand’s Super Saturday was a remarkable success.  On the 16th of October 2021, 130,000 people turned up to over 700 vaccination nationwide sites to receive a dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Over 90,000 people received their second dose and over 30,000 received their first dose. The push to get everyone vaccinated was a huge success with Auckland having 89% of it’s eligible population with at least their first dose.

Given the scale of the campaign, many businesses jumped on board to help promote the cause. One of the more captivating campaigns supporting Super Saturday was planned by Air New Zealand and Local Doctors East Tamaki. Air New Zealand transformed one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets into a vaccination clinic staffed by doctors and nurses from Local Doctors East Tamaki. The plan was founded on the idea of giving Aucklanders a taste of international travel again without actually leaving the tarmac. Special boarding passes were issued to the passengers for the event as they headed to "destination vaccination!"

Air New Zealand reported that the Jab-a-seat clinic sold out in just five hours.

"We know Aucklanders have been doing it tough recently, and we hope the idea of boarding an international aircraft for the first time in a long while will lift some spirits - while also encouraging people to protect themselves," spoke Air New Zealand Chief Operational Integrity and Safety Officer Captain David Morgan.

With the plane being parked at Auckland Airport, this was an opportunity for those who have always wanted to try out business class. Visitors for the vaccination arrived through the main doors and were then guided into business class to receive their COVID-19 dose by Local Doctor medical staff. They were then led into economy class where they sat for the 15-minute observation period, with classic Air New Zealand snacks provided and in-flight entertainment at the ready.

All vaccination procedures were overseen by the talented Local Doctors team (part of the Tamaki Health brand). Arrow Uniforms is proud to have Tamaki Health as a customer and delighted to support them on their endeavour to protect us from COVID-19. This is not the only mobile vaccination centre Local Doctors has been operating. They also operate a Vaccine Van that has been doing the rounds in Otara to help increase vaccination accessibility for people. With over 90,000 vaccinations and growing daily from Local Doctors alone, it’s great to see their hard work having such a positive impact!
